Hedgehog Project

Our hedgehogs are in trouble and we believe we can help save them. So here at wild.NG are asking all of our community to help paint a picture of where our hedgehogs are living, or not.

Community involvement is key.

Have you seen a hedgehog, or never seen a hedgehog? We need you to tell us.

We are launching our project with a free webinar led by local and national experts and those passionate about saving our spiky friends.

Poison Free Pavements

In 2022 we launched our first ever Poison Free Pavements campaign in Nottingham, with 53 pilot streets taking part. With the help of over 150 volunteer ‘Wildlife Champions’ our aim is to encourage Nottingham City Council to seek non chemical solutions to managing street plant life.

As a result of our campaign, the whole of Sherwood Ward is now Poison Free in 2023. This extended pilot is now led by Nottingham City Council with the support of our volunteers.

Bat Superflyway

We’re beginning to lose count of how many bat boxes we have built with local people, families and scouts - but it’s a lot!

All of our bat boxes have been installed across our community in local wildlife parks and green spaces so we can map out our Bat Superflyway as it develops. All of our boxes will be regularly monitored by our local youth wildlife group Keeping it Wild and Nottinghamshire Bat Group. We will keep you posted!

A huge thanks for the support of land owners and groups in helping us help our local bat populations.

Watch this space to find out more about our next bat box building workshops and bat detecting events! We will also be launching our new Bat Superflyway map soon too.

Swift Street

Helping our swift populations ‘street by street’ we have installed over 40 swift boxes on residential properties in our local community.

With an always fully subscribed public programme of local events, tours and talks, Swift Street highlights the environmental pressures that urban development has created for this enigmatic and dynamic Nottingham visitor, and the positive actions we can take to ensure they continue to grace our summer skies for years to come.

Two new Swift Streets are due for installation in 2023, with nearly 60 boxes in total installed.

Our very first welcoming parade for swifts will also be taking place in May, with 100’s of school pupils joining us to celebrate and highlight the importance of this red listed bird.

Register your ‘wild.NG street’

Wild.NG is a street by street project, and to do this we are inviting you to register your street as a wild.NG street. It’s a community effort, so talk to your neighbours and if there are a few of you wanting to register, that’s brilliant! What happens when you register your street? We will provide advice on how to transform your street for nature and we invite you to also register to be a Wildlife Champion for your street.

We will host specific ‘my wild.NG street’ events and networking opportunities too!
